Media & PressEnd-to-end visibility and resilience in Italy’s temperature-controlled supply chains
As supply chains continue to face increasing complexity, the role of visibility, compliance and operational resilience has never been more critical—particularly in temperature-controlled logistics.
In a recent feature with Freight Business Journal, Atlante’s Chief Supply Chain Officer, Ian Perotto, shares his perspective on how these challenges are shaping Italy’s cold chain market and the wider European food supply landscape.
A key focus is the growing importance of end-to-end visibility. As shipment volumes increase, Atlante has strengthened integration between its Transportation Management System and freight forwarders, enabling improved tracking and tracing across the full journey. The objective goes beyond stock visibility, supporting real-time monitoring and faster response to disruption.
Italy remains a central hub for food logistics, spanning ambient, chilled, frozen and temperature controlled categories. Across most of these segments, strict temperature management is essential. Technologies such as sensors and data loggers are now standard, helping ensure product integrity while enabling intervention when required.
At the same time, managing a diverse product portfolio, introduces additional complexity. Different categories require tailored handling, storage and transport conditions, reinforcing the need for robust processes and reliable logistics partnerships.
Ongoing pressure on global logistics networks has further highlighted the importance of collaboration and accurate forecasting. Improved demand planning is enabling more efficient resource allocation, helping to reduce bottlenecks and maintain stability in an uncertain environment.
The UK continues to play a strategically important role for Atlante, with strong export growth complemented by increasingly bidirectional trade flows.
